Book Nook

As soon as Mike saw those giant windows, he knew he wanted to install a reading nook for his daughter because of her love of books.

A glimpse of how far the kitchen has come. Tina came up with the design and Mike brought her dream to life. You can see here where they've started the tile, framed the wall and built the breakfast nook.

Tina actually laid, grouted, and sealed the tiles all by herself! (with only minimal instruction from Mike)

Tina was so excited to have the wall finished.

The Medallions

The Medallions

Mike and Tina's son found these two metal medallions in a gift shop in Florida. I'd say its meant to be!

After Mike hand crafted the couch, Tina went to work sewing the cushions. Here's the final result!

Our Simple Start

In the Fall of 2014 Mike and Tina Sonen bought a rustic log cabin that needed a lot of TLC. But the Sonens were definitely the people for the job.

While Mike is an all around handyman, his passion is wood working. He has been making furniture for friends and family for the better part of a decade. A rocking chair that's been passed around his nieces and nephews as they have children, a reading bench for his mother, and an entire living room suite for Tina, are just a few of the pieces he's made. Now a days, Mike's work tends to reflect the simple elegance of the Arts and Crafts style. This in turn inspired the motif for their new cabin.

Tina may not have known much about refurbishing a house when she began, but she could be called an expert now. While Mike tackled the big projects, Tina learned how to stain wood, lay and grout tile, install cabinets, and then still made lunch. She also made the cushions in the living room in her free time.

All in all, bringing this cabin into the twenty-first century has definitely been a family affair and everyone in the Sonen's lives pitched in at one point or another. Now they want to invite you to enjoy their hard work. Come be apart of the family and admire the loving detail that Mike and Tina included in every corner to ensure your stay would be memorable.
